1. Stay off the roof first
Steep slopes, wet shingles, and hidden soft spots cause falls. Start from the ground with binoculars or a zoom photo from a safe spot. If you later need an inspection on the roof itself, hire a contractor who carries proper insurance and follows safety practices.
2. Walk the perimeter
Look for fallen limbs, dented gutters or downspouts, bent flashing, and debris piles that trap moisture against siding or fascia. On shingle roofs, note missing tabs, lifted edges, or granule accumulation in gutters (often easier to see than subtle hail hits from the yard).
3. Check the attic (daylight helps)
With the attic lights off, look for daylight through the roof deck. Scan for water stains, damp insulation, or moldy smells after heavy rain. Not every leak shows up immediately; stains may appear days later.
4. Document with photos and dates
Capture wide shots of each roof plane plus close-ups of damaged areas, gutters, and any interior stains. Save the date of the storm from local news or NOAA reports. Organized photos help adjusters and contractors understand what changed.
5. Compare with your city page context
Wind and hail patterns vary across the Metroplex. If you are deciding how urgent a visit is, our service area pages describe how we work locally and link to consultation requests for your city.
6. Insurance timing
Carriers set filing deadlines and documentation rules. For a plain-language overview of how timing fits with inspections and claims, see homeowners insurance and roof claims: timing basics.
7. When to call Sentrik Roofing
Call us when you suspect hidden damage, see widespread granule loss, have interior leaks, or need a written assessment before talking with your insurer. We explain what we see in straightforward language and do not guarantee claim outcomes.
